Worship, Production, and Intern

I hope that the previous series of articles helped in the understanding of our DEEP worship gatherings at Greenwood Christian.  Examining the biblical and historical perspectives of the Church's gatherings enables us to see the role of worship in proper perspective, and then understand it's role in our world today – how it responds to and shapes our culture.  The late Robert Webber, ThD wrote in his book, Worship Is A Verb:  "Visualize an hourglass set on its side.  At the very center, the waist of the hourglass is worship.  On the left, everything that one does in life, work and leisure, moves toward the center, worship.  On the right, everything that one does in life, work and leisure is empowered by worship. . . . Worship stands at the center and gives shape to all that we do" (p. 204).

One aspect of our gatherings that sometimes gets overlooked, and underestimated, is Production.  Three different words form our understanding of "worship" in the New Testament:
  • Proskuneo, to bow down before (John 4:19-24)
  • Latreuo, to serve with an upright life (Romans 12:1)
  • Leitourgia, the work of the people (Acts 13:2)

So worship certainly is not defined by production.  However, production does facilitate much, indeed a whole lot, of what we do when we gather to worship.  Erik Tittle, our Production Director, will be sharing with us some information about the production of our gatherings.  It's an exciting area of ministry!

Finally, it's been my pleasure to have Lauren Smith working as intern the past several months.  By the time of this publishing, her internship will have come to an end.  I hope you got to know her, and perhaps spend some time with her.  She led us well, shared her lovely voice and talents, and gained some knowledge and experience in the field of worship ministry.  She'll be around some, as she's preparing for an 11 month missions trip, and we will each have the opportunity to support that work.  Thanks to our Greenwood Christian family for welcoming her during her time here.
