Poetry by Shirley Bowers

Shirley Bowers is a dear member of our congregation at GCC.  Recently, we read one of her poems in our worship service.  Here is that poem, as well as others she has written.  Enjoy!

Thanks, Shirley, for your words.

Heavenly Father
O Heavenly Father
How precious Thy name
You lift me and heal me
In all different ways
Your love is so awesome
In so many ways
O Heavenly Father
How precious Thy name

Wintry
There’s red birds on my window sill
And blue birds flying about
With little snow birds fluttering around
To show God’s love all about

Pathway
The path with our Lord Jesus Christ
He gives us the path to happiness
He gives us the path to everlasting life
He gives us the path to know right from wrong
He gives us the path to His everlasting love

Easter
E – Everlasting love
A – Acceptance that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God
S – Singing the song of praise
T – Tears He shed for all
E – Express needs to God in prayer
R – Resurrection and eternal life for the people of the world

Christmas
O Christmas, what a precious time
With family, friends who are so kind
And not just one day but all year through
To know the joy, love of Jesus who makes this a blessing
For the dawning of a new year
May we hear the joyous gospel
O Christmas, what a precious time

New Day
Now a new day’s started
Whether big or small
And with the help of Jesus
I’ll get through it all
I pray all my loved ones
Have a bright new day
To be with the sun a’shining
Through your window panes
And if not let it shine in your heart

Sunbeam
O Heavenly sunbeam of today
Give me the light to show me the way
From wrong to right and day to day everyway
O Heavenly sunbeam of today

Gift
When I look out my window and what do I see
All the things of beauty God has given to me
Spring, summer, fall and winter is God’s gift to me
When I look out my window and what do I see

Friendship
Friends, a precious gift with love, joy and kindness
A blessing so to cherish in our daily life
Whether near or far, we have friendship always

Savior
Sweet Jesus my Savior, I sing all the day
And praising His glory in work and in play
He is my foundation, my only salvation
Sweet Jesus my Savior, I sing all the day

Butterfly
My little butterfly sat down at my side
On a sunny day and said, “My what a nice day.”
And with the fluttering of his wings to let everyone know
That the Lord is with you wherever you go
My little butterfly

Raindrops
Raindrops fall and bring spring flowers
With birds joyfully calling, saying that’s not all
For the love of Jesus He gives to all
